Simulation


The TrackABus NZ service for Palmerston North and Wanganui currently simulates tracking data based on publicly available timetable information. The next step is to launch a live trial of the service with the co-operation of the Bay Bus

The typical trial process includes the following steps

  • A outline of the service routes and main stops is created (this allows TrackABus to simulate a service)
  • Permission is sought to trial the service by starting to live track the bus fleet
  • TrackABus supplies and installs the standalone tracking hardware on the bus fleet
  • TrackABus starts gathering live tracking data from the buses
  • The tracking data is used to auto-detect routes, stops and stop times to improve the outline service
  • The auto-detected data is reviewed to 'snap' to the published service timetable and the tracking hardware begins providing real time information for testing purposes
  • Detailed metrics are reviewed to confirm service accuracy whilst additional passenger information systems such as street display signs, window display screens and the SMS gateway are configured (note that all communication hardware and costs will be covered by Trackabus) - the Trackabus smartphone applications will also work against the new service
  • The passenger information interfaces are integrated into the existing service framework to produce a high quality, integrated solution


The service can then go live to the public (note that there is no obligation to purchase the service, or any upfront costs, until the service goes live and can be cancelled at any time)
